About Biodiversity

What is Biodiversity?

Biodiversity involves the complex interrelationship between all living organisms inhabiting the planet and the environment they live in.

Why is Biodiversity important?

The importance of biodiversity lies in this direct interrelationship between living organisms, including human beings, and every component of the environment they inhabit. Thus, the alteration of any one of this multiplicity of intertwined elements will cause a consequent alteration of other related elements.

Furthermore, Central America’s biodiversity, which includes forests, multiple species and genetic resources, is being threatened by unsustainable activities that have an extremely negative impact on biodiversity.

If biodiversity continues to decline, it will compromise the future wellbeing of all humanity. Therefore it is of utmost importance to use natural resources in a sustainable fashion in order to conserve biodiversity.
